PALO ALTO, CALIF. - Sept. 12, 2007 – Expanding its global network display market share, DisplayLink today announced that I-O Data Device Inc., Japan’s PC peripheral market leader, has selected the company’s DL-120 network display chip as the basis of a new external USB video adapter.
The I-O Data USB-RGB adapter enables PC users to instantly connect additional monitors to a computer using USB 2.0 without additional graphics cards. With DisplayLink’s Virtual Graphics Card software driver, up to six displays to be connected to a single PC.
“Now, when a consumer is ready for an upgrade to the latest display technology, there’s no need to discard the old display,” said Dennis Crespo, executive vice president of marketing for DisplayLink. “With the USB-RGB adapter, the old display can become a valuable expansion of the new system at a very low cost.”
To gain additional display viewing area, users just plug the USB-RGB adapter into a USB 2.0 port on a PC or laptop and then into the VGA cable on the display. DisplayLink’s DL-120 chips are built into the adapters, which convert compressed video information into pixels for the display and support 24-bit color and high-resolution displays up to 1440 x 900, and supports DVD-quality video playback.
The adapters also provide instant interactivity for mouse and keyboard input. DisplayLink’s driver software runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista computers and makes configuration easy and remembers all display settings for convenience.

The USB-RGB adapter is available through I-O Data sales channels throughout Japan and costs ¥10,700 ($90).
