We recommend using the latest driver for DisplayLink USB devices for Mac OS X but if you are experiencing difficulties with the release version and would prefer to install the Beta version 1.0b, you can do so below.
This is the updated beta driver for DisplayLink USB devices for Mac OS X. Because this driver is still in beta, some features are not fully implemented and there are outstanding bugs. Please see the release notes for more information.
DisplayLink USB devices are the easiest way to add an additional monitor to your Mac. This driver, with the relevant DisplayLink-powered hardware, will allow any Intel-based Mac – even a Mac Mini or MacBook Air – to connect up to 4 monitors over USB. This driver also supports the USB video of our customers’ USB docking station products, giving you a cost-effective and easy way to connect your display and all of your peripherals to your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, with only one USB 2.0 cable.
Known Issues with the DisplayLink Macintosh Beta Driver software
The DisplayLink Beta driver for Mac OS X is not final software and still has one key limitation:
- No 3D (OpenGL) acceleration – some features of Mac OS X applications that require hardware OpenGL
acceleration, such as Keynote presentations and iPhoto slideshows, will not function properly.

DisplayLink is committed to making a Mac release that is just as good – if not better – than our Windows Vista release, including full support for OpenGL 3D acceleration. Unfortunately the Mac OS X operating system is a closed system, and unlike Windows XP and Windows Vista, it is difficult to make significant improvements without the direct support of Apple. If you would like to see improved support for DisplayLink USB devices from Apple, please let them know through the Apple Feedback form for Mac OS X.
