iPhone/Touch Adventure '1112' Now Available


Agharta Studio's interactive adventure 1112 Episode 01 has finally come to the App Store at $8 US. It's noteworthy to be sure because of the scale and scope of this endeavor which includes intricate hand drawn artwork and a full Sierra On-Line/Lucasarts adventure game format. The final product will be delivered in a number of episodes. Enjoy.

 

iMac gives Xbox 360 a slot-loading future


Over at Hard | OCP they've got a modder's take on something just about every Xbox 360 fan might want (in order to compete with that sleek slot-loading PS3 in terms of esthetics).

 

SimCity Coming to iPhone in December for $10

TouchArcade brings news of EA's latest entry in the iPhone app business. SimCity will be arriving in a month or so for $9.99. MG Seigler of VentureBeat already saw it and liked it.
I got a chance to play a near-complete version of it today; it looks great. Fans of the series will recognize the SimCity 3000 look and feel, but the addition of touch screen controls makes sense for things like zoning (creating a certain type of building zone). Using the multi-touch capabilities of the iPhone to do things like zooming in and out of your city also makes the game a good fit for the device.

 

Best iPhone Racing Game Yet?


TouchArcade brings word of a new (yet to be released as of the 11th of November) iPhone racer which looks to be the most promising racing sim yet for Apple's handheld.

 

New iPhone + Touch FPS coming along nicely

iPhone + Touch developer Fern Lightning is well on the way towards bringing an effective FPS (First Person Shooter) to the iPhone/Touch. According to TouchArcade, a free version of the app has already been submitted to Apple.

 

Barack Obama Buys In-Game Advertising

The Obama campaign will be buying up virtual space in a number of popular EA games, including Madden and Burnout Paradise. This is obviously a new area and the Obama campaign is the first presidential campaign to attempt something like this.

Procedural Content Creation


Here's a look at a pretty revolutionary approach to generating graphical content in a game engine - it's dubbed 'procedural content creation' and while the concept itself isn't new, utilizing it in a game engine (i.e. putting it into a practical application) is. Basically, graphical content is generated on demand through varying textures while keeping the base object static. It creates a much more dynamic environment and could lead to some pretty interesting applications.
